C-SHOP is actively engaged in
research and medical applications in collaboration with the U.S. Army
Medical Research and Materiel Command and SPAWAR. Activities include:
-
Assuming responsibility for the
future development and enhancement of the major DoD computer-based
testing system (ANAMŽ). This test system is used for military field
and laboratory research assessing such factors as fatigue, sleep
loss, shift work, alcohol, prescription and illicit drugs, and
environmental stressors (e.g., heat, vibration, and noise) that
might render soldiers, rescue workers, or security agents less
effective.
-
Quality assurance assessment and
hardening of the ANAMŽ cognitive test battery.
-
Development, distribution, and
application of clinical screening test tools.
-
Assistance in deployment of
portable test systems for field assessment of head injuries and
assessment of degraded performance capability associated with
sustained operations, etc.
-
Providing critical support to the
Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center, Walter Reed Army Medical
Center, in the assessment of cognitive state in paratrooper head
injury cases and head injuries among combat casualties in Iraq.
-
Constructing a U.S. Army combat
and medical facilities triage system for broad-based testing of
cognitive functioning followed by detailed diagnostic evaluation.
-
Assisting researchers at the U.S.
Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine in recovery of
data on the effects of deployment (Bosnia and Iraq) on cognitive
functioning.
-
Developing screening tests for
the U.S. Army for the early detection of Parkinson's disease.
